Hearty congratulations to Guy Blinman, Parklea Correctional Centre Overseer, who has been awarded the prestigious Australian Corrections Medal (ACM) as part of the 2026 Australia Day Honours.
The Australian Corrections Medal is one of the highest honours in the corrections profession, awarded by the Governor-General to recognise distinguished service by correctional staff across Australia. It acknowledges exceptional dedication, professionalism, and contributions to offender rehabilitation and community safety.
Exceptional dedication
Since joining Parklea Correctional Centre in 2010, Guy has been a driving force behind the success of the Cabinet Shop program. Over the past 15 years, he has taught thousands of inmates the fundamentals of cabinet making, instilling not only practical trade skills but also essential values such as teamwork, responsibility, and pride in workmanship.
Guy’s approach goes beyond technical instruction – he fosters a work ethic that prepares inmates for life beyond custody. Through structured routines, meeting production deadlines, and working collaboratively, inmates gain confidence and a sense of purpose. His efforts have contributed significantly to reducing violence and illicit activity within the centre, creating a safer and more constructive environment for all.
MTC’s BIONIC principles exemplified
Guy exemplifies our BIONIC values of professionalism, empathy, and accountability that underpin the MTC philosophy of helping people improve their lives. His passion for rehabilitation and his ability to inspire positive change in the lives of inmates make him an outstanding recipient of the Australian Corrections Medal.
